At the Passenger Terminal EXPO 2022 in Paris this month, attendees were able to take a deep dive into the innovative concepts, ideas, products and new technologies that are sure to shape the future of the travel industry.
A number of panels and discussions explored the latest trends affecting the industry, including the advanced air mobility and vertiport development; customer service and passenger experience; airport design, planning and development and ‘technovation’.
The Templemere team was in attendance, and we picked up a few takeaways and discussion points and spotted some innovations which will affect the travel industry moving forward.
The time for talk is over
As in-person events have steadily made their way back into diaries, there has been much talk of new investments, deals and partnerships.
Talk is now moving to action. Many exhibitors commented that they had seen decisions being made and deals being done.
While video calls are useful, in-person relationships remain essential
Attending events such as PTE really does shine a light on the importance of meeting in-person, having face-to-face discussions remains central to doing business. Conducting conversations in-person should be a priority for businesses in 2022.
Streamlined, simplified and sustainable were the watch-words
The integration of streamlined and simplified processes has never been more important than in this new cost-conscious era, and that was on display throughout the exhibition. Sustainability has been a buzzword for so many years now, so it was good to see it so many exhibitors genuinely making a conscious effort to implement these elements into their operations.
And here’s some of the stands we thought deserved a second look…
Dyson’s heating and cooling systems were a big hit with attendees. The tech behind Dyson’s innovative contactless hand washing was, as we’d expect from this brand, impressive. We particularly enjoyed having the opportunity for a wash and brush-up on the exhibition floor.
The tech behind E Leather’s range of sustainable upholstery materials, was also formidable. The company offers a sustainable solution by recycling scraps of old leather which can be used to fashion furniture and other leisure items.
Gunnebo, a leading specialist in entrance control solutions, caught the eye of the Templemere team with its super-slick passport and facial scanning systems and speed gates, designed to smooth up the border control and security process.
XOVIS big-screen streaming of live information on passenger flow from Charles De Gaulle Airport had many pausing to catch another look. The company’s technology allows airports to analyse key performance indicators such as waiting time, passenger volumes and identification of peak traffic periods in real-time.
Amadeus demonstrated a solution designed to simplify passenger processing infrastructure, allowing airport staff to serve passengers from anywhere in the terminal. Show attendees had the opportunity to test out cloud-integrated tech designed to deliver contactless payments, bag tagging and biometric boarding when heading towards their flight.
