The Apprentice blog 2.0: A day at the PRCA

Last month I spent a day at the PRCA offices in Southwark, taking part in an interactive course with Steve Dunne FPRCA on how to sell into the media.

After group introductions, it became apparent the group agreed that pitching to journalists can be one of the most challenging tasks for any PR professional. Steve captured our attention by announcing that we’d be making a call to sell in a story to a journalist at the end of the day. A great tactic to make us cling onto his every word!

The session leading up to the call was informative and we learnt plenty of little tips and hints. Steve set us the task of analysing newspaper stories, answering questions and actively contributing to the disucssion throughout the session. With an exciting story from his career to illustrate each point he made, the day inspired me to become even more proactive and seize every opportunity in my career.

By the end of the day we had all successfully ‘passed’ the live call simulation, and it was incredibly satisfying to come away from the course feeling more confident in my abilities as a budding PR professional.
